Illinois Tollway Now Has a Webcam to Show Road Conditions

Tollway webcams let drivers glimpse road conditions before walking out of the door.

The Illinois Tollway has looped 15 traffic feeds into its website so you can see conditions on the main arteries around Chicago before you ever get on the road.

According to the Illinois Tollway website, feeds from 15 traffic camera locations are now accessible to the public through the Tollway's homepage.

A bird's-eye view of traffic conditions features three feeds on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90), eight on the Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294), and two on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88).

The agency announced Tuesday that you can access the camera feeds by selecting View Traffic Cameras link on the Tollway’s homepage. This link to "the Illinois Tollway Virtual Map, a clickable map that allows customers to zoom in on a section of the Illinois Tollway system and select a camera icon to get a view from that location. Customers can click on the 'Traffic Cameras' tab located in the left navigation bar to identify camera locations," according to the statement.

Images are uploaded about every five minutes and the view is dependent on weather conditions, said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur.
