Gov. Quinn to Fund Pedestrian Trail in Palos Park, Alsip

The trail will stretch from 86th Avenue to Southwest Highway, and from Ridgeland to Cicero Avenue in Palos Park and Alsip.

Governor Pat Quinn Thursday announced capital investments of more than $4.7 million for construction projects Cook County. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“These campus buildings, street and trail projects are the type of work that maintains our infrastructure while putting people to work,” Governor Quinn said.

Two sections of a 10-foot-wide pedestrian trail will be constructed from 86th Avenue to Southwest Highway, and from Ridgeland to Cicero Avenue in Palos Park and Alsip. The work includes paving, box culverts, retaining walls, sidewalk, curb and gutter, storm sewer, traffic signal modifications and landscaping. D Construction, Inc. of Coal City was the lower of two bidders for the work at $2,370,173. The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.       

The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.

Chicago

Northeastern Illinois University will have work done on their Physical Education and Library Buildings as part of projects managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board. Both buildings will have roofs replaced and walls repaired. A-1 Roofing Co. of Elk Grove Village was the low bidder on each project, $726,700 for the Library work and $549,650 for the Physical Education Building.

The roofing system at the University of Illinois at Chicago Engineering Building will be replaced for $749,860 by Bennett & Brosseau Roofing, Inc. of Romeoville, the lowest of four bidders. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board. 

Hazel Crest

Three-quarters of a mile of Fountainbleu Drive from 183rd Street to Kedzie Avenue will be resurfaced and receive curb and gutter repair for $347,335 by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, the lowest of three bidders. The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
