Teen Charged After Facebook Death Threat Appears in Court

Thomas Braasch is still in custody after threatening a classmate on the social networking site Facebook.

The high school student charged with a felony after threatening to shoot a classmate at school on Facebook briefly apparenced in court Tuesday morning.

Dressed in a jail-issued tan jumpsuit Thomas Braasch, 19, of Worth, was brought into the Bridgeview courtroom to face Judge Kerry Kennedy.  

Last Thursday, Braasch was taken into custody by Cook County Sheriffs at Shepard High School after it was alleged that he used Facebook to threaten to shoot another classmate.

He was charged with disorderly conduct, transmitting or causing a threat of destruction of a school building or school, or a threat of violence, death, or bodily harm directed  against persons at a school. The charge is a class four felony.  

During the hearing Braasch's public defender asked the judge if the bail amount could be reconsidered during the next court apperence. Braasch is still in custody after bail was set at $150,000.

Kennedy warned that reconsidering the amount could result in a higher bail amount, as easily as a lower one. 

If he does post the required amount to bond out, Braasch would be required to stay away from the witness in this case. 

He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18 for indictment.
