Palos seniors will learn how to protect themselves from crime during the six week course.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office has partnered with the Palos Park and Palos Heights recreation departments to bring a six week senior police academy course to the area.

Classes will meet on Thursdays for six weeks and will focus on ways to protect yourself from crime, how to communicate with law enforcement, how to understand scams targeting seniors and information on the Cook County courts and jail system. The program will end with a graduation ceremony.

The classes will take place every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. starting on Oct. 10 and ending on Nov. 14. The first three classes will take place at the Palos Heights Recreation Center and the second half of the course at the Palos Park Recreation Center.

To register for the class or to find out more information you can contact the Cook County Sheriff’s Office at 708-974-6042.
