Restaurant Fire Started in the Kitchen: Chief

The blaze that burned the European Restaurant and Deli appears to be accidental.

Fire investigators have yet to pinpoint what caused a fire in a restaurant and deli Tuesday night.

The , 6900 W. 111th St. in Worth, said Chief Daniel Russell of the North Palos Fire Protection District. A storage area was located near the oven but he could not say if that led to the fire.

The blaze does appear to be accidental, Russell said.

Fire and smoke damage is estimated to be at least $50,000.

It was unclear how long repairs to the restaurant will take.

"The owners are working right now on taking care of everything through their insurance.”

The initial call came in around 10:45 p.m. The fire was contained within 20 minutes, Russell said.

No one was in the building when it caught fire and no injuries were reported.

Units from Chicago Ridge, , Bridgeview and Oak Lawn were called to the fire.
