Pregnant Woman Charged After 4 Found Unconscious in Palos Hills Apartment

The third surviving adult found unconscious in a Palos Hills apartment on Monday night has been charged, police said.

A pregnant woman has been charged with three counts of child endangerment in Palos Hills.

Jacqueline Stoffey, 25, was one of four adults at 11195 Roberts Road on Monday night.  Two boys, a 6 year old and a 5 year old, were also at the scene, police said.

She was charged with one count for each boy. The other charge is the result of Stoffey being seven months pregnant, Boie said.

Stoffey was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center Monday night where she remains, Boie said.

Her sister, Jean Stoffey, 34, was pronounced dead at Palos Community Hospital Monday night, police said.

The other two adults present, Justin Benoit 29, and Debra Pietrzyk, 52, were each charged with one count of child endangerment, Boie said. Benoit is Jacqueline Stoffey's boyfriend, and Pietrzyk is the sisters' mother.

Hypodermic needles were recovered from the scene Monday, and police executed a search warrant of the apartment on Tuesday night, Boie said.

The investigation continues and more charges may still come, Boie said.

Jean Stoffey was released on parole March 26, 2011, after serving several months in jail for retail theft, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Jean Stoffey left several messages on her MySpace page indicating a battle with addiction.

"I began to see the mess I made of my life with drugs. I forgot what it was like before I started using. I forgot how to feel," she wrote in an undated message.

The three other adults all have criminal backgrounds, according to court records obtained by the SouthtownStar.
