Police: 'Sewer Explosion' Scam Involves Man in Green Vest

Scams are targeting area residents.

Don't trust a man in a green safety vest and white hard hat if he comes to your door.

That's the word from Palos Park police, who are warning residents about scams being reported to local departments.

A victim of the scam told police that a man dressed in a fluorescent green safety vest and a white hard hat came to his home. The man in the hat said the homeowner needed get into his basement because of a "sewer explosion" behind his house.

Twenty minutes later, the man emerged from the basement and found the alleged workman had left. Nothing was reported missing from the house.

Residents need to be aware and watchful for any potential scams, both for themselves and their neighbors, said Palos Park Police Commissioner Dan Polk.

Call 911 to report anything suspicious and to alert police to a possible scam investigation.
