Updated: No Injuries After Car Crashes into Palos Heights Home

A Worth man was arrested after allegedly leaving his license plate at the accident scene.

A Palos Heights home was shaken awake Sunday when a car came barreling through its front wall and then fled into the night, leaving a bumper and license plate behind, police said.

Roger Molenhouse, 22, of the 6500 block of 113th Street in Worth was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to give aid after walking into the Palos Heights police station later that day, according to police.

Police said they identified Molenhouse through his abandoned license plate and left a voice message on his phone requesting to speak with him.

He was processed and released from custody on a $2,000 bond.

Three people were sleeping in the home around 3 a.m. when it was struck by a 2002 Honda Civic, police said, though none was injured.

“I thought Palos Heights had an earthquake,” said Carol Heffernan, whose husband ran downstairs to find car tires spinning in his family room, only inches from the house gas line and below their six-year-old son’s bed.

“I’m more freaked out about this today,” she said. “I keep thinking, what if?”

After two days, the family is still assessing the damage, which in addition to a wrecked family room and wall includes a bush and small tree.
