'Police Awareness Fund' Scammer Targeting Palos: Police

Watch out for scammers using the police to get you to donate.

Watch out for callers claiming to be from the "Police Awareness Fund." It's a scam.

Palos Park police are warning residents about this latest scam. A man who said he is from the Palos Awareness Fund and the Palos Park Police Association has been calling area resident. The caller offers a decal to supporters who donate money.

Both the Palos Awareness Fund and the Palos Park Police Association are fictitious organizations. The Palos Park Police Foundation is a real organization that assist the department but does not solicit through phone calls.

The scam calls are coming from the phone number 217-303-8800.

Police want residents to be carefull when they make monetary donations or contributions over the phone, as it is not the safest way to show your support.
