Palos Heights police officers and cadets staged a rooftop stakeout of Dunkin' Donuts to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois.

For the tenth year Palos Heights police officers staged a rooftop stakeout at to raise funds for Special Olympics Illinois. 

The "Cop on Top" fundraising effort is occuring across the state and last year brought in $215,000 for the cause. Palos Heights cops collected about $3,600 last year and hope to match that total today. 

The rooftop fundraising effort is in advance of the Special Olympics Illinois Torch Relay which local officers will participate in on June 13. Officers will run for about 10 miles as the torch makes its way to Normal, Ill. for the State Summer Games June 15 - 17.

"This is a great way for us to give back to the community," said Officer George Drikos.

UPDATE: Today's total haul was $3,185.35, according to Drikos. The officers were very happy and thankful for amount raised.
