UPDATED: Charges Will Not Be Filed in Student Sex Abuse Investigation at Stagg High School

The investigation involves allegations of sexual abuse against a mentally challenged student, police said.

March 29, 2:37 p.m.: The investigation into whether a developmentally challenged student at Stagg High School was sexually abused has been closed after the mother of the student declined to sign a complaint, said Palos Hills Deputy Police Chief James Boie.

Palos Hills police are investigating allegations that a developmentally challenged student was sexually abused by another student at Stagg High School.

Police believe there was only one victim, said Deputy Police Chief James Boie.

"Both students involved are juveniles, which makes this especially difficult," Boie said.

Palos Hills police are investigating with the Cook County State's Attorney's Child Advocacy Center, Boie said.

Stagg High School released a statement on Sunday after the Chicago Tribune published an article detailing the initial investigation on Saturday:

"I hope that as you read about the allegation referenced in this article you consider the services that Stagg High School has provided to your students and know that we hold the safety and security of all Stagg High School students as our chief concern to ensure an environment that supports learning at high levels for all," the statement read.
