Palos Hills Police Blotter: Prescription Drugs at Stagg, DUI and Burglary

An overview of crimes that occurred in Palos Hills from Sept. 1 to Sept. 7.

An explosive device destroyed the mailbox of a home on the 8600 block of Sun Valley Drive sometime before 10 a.m. on Sept 1, police said. Detectives are investigating.

On Sept. 1 at 8:15 p.m. a resident of the 10400 block of 84th Avenue reported that an unknown person entered his unlocked vehicle and took his debit card and a check. The check and debit card was then used throughout the area, police said.

A manhole cover was reported missing on the 8800 block of 102nd Street on Sept. 3 at 12:30 p.m., police said. Officers were also informed that several manhole covers were missing throughout the city.

On Sept. 3 at 2:20 p.m., 2 female juveniles were arrested for fighting at Stagg High School, police said. One juvenile was arrested for battery, and the other for battery and disorderly conduct. The case was turned over to the Juvenile States Attorney, police said.

A juvenile female was arrested on Sept. 3 at Stagg High School for selling prescription drugs, police said. The female student is alleged to have taken the pills from home and then sold them to another student, police said. The juvenile was charged with possession and delivery of a controlled substance. The male student who purchased the drugs was charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Police arrested three male juveniles for criminal damage to property on Sept. 4 at about 4:00 p.m. on the 10500 block of 83rd Avenue. The juveniles picked up a rock and threw it through the widow of a home, police said.

Michael Vasquez, 27, of Chicago Ridge, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of cannabis on Sept. 5. Vasquez was pulled over for speeding in the 7600 block of 111th Street, police said. He then failed a field sobriety test and officers found a bag of marijuana on the floor of his car.

Police responded to a burglary on the 10400 block of South 84th Terrace on Sept. 5. Officers found no forced entry and the victim stated he was missing a laptop computer, Xbox equipment and motorcycle equipment, police said.

Matthew Mitsis, 20, of Palos Park, was arrested for illegal consumption of alcohol on Sept. 6 at about 1 a.m. Police responded to a fight in progress in the area of the 8400 block of 99th Terrace. When police arrived several people were observed running from the area, police said. Mitsis was caught and appeared to have been drinking, police said.
