Palos Heights Police Blotter: Items From Unlocked Cars Stolen, Rummaged

Palos Heights police reports, Feb. 15-19

SATURDAY, FEB. 19

Swerve and Protect

Matthew R. Marzilli, 21, of the 15500 block of Duncan Road in Oak Forest, was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use, according to reports. Police said they stopped Marzilli’s car in the 13600 block of Harlem Avenue around 11:45 p.m. after they saw it swerving between lanes.

FRIDAY, FEB. 18

Car Break-Ins Reported

  • Sometime in the early morning, a laptop computer, black leather coat, briefcase, sunglasses and iPod were stolen from an unlocked car in the 200 block of Sawgrass Drive, police said. The owner told police the items are worth $2,200 in total.
  • Around the same time, an unlocked car parked in the 300 block of Pinehurst Court was rummaged through, according to the report. A video tape and pair of headphones were found scattered across the front and neighboring lawn, police said. Nothing else was reported missing.
TUESDAY, FEB. 15

Crossing the Line

Tawfiq Zaid Sweiss, 29, of the 9800 block of Merton Avenue in Oak Lawn, was charged with possession of marijuana, operating an uninsured motor vehicle improper lane use. Police said they stopped Sweiss’ car in the 11800 block of Harlem Avenue around 3:30 a.m. for "crossing the white line divider."
