Palos Heights Police Blotter: Accused Drunken Driver Going Twice the Speed Limit; Porta-John Blown Apart

Palos Heights police reports, June 21-27

MONDAY, JUNE 27 

DUI and Speeding Without Headlights

Salvador Magdaleno, 27, of the 1700 block of Ashland Avenue in Park Ridge, was charged with driving under the influence, operation of an uninsured vehicle, speeding, improper lane usage and driving without headlights. Police said they stopped Magdaleno in the 12000 block of Harlem Avenue around 1:30 a.m. for driving 72 in a 35 mph zone, without headlights. Magdaleno was subsequently seen drifting into the curbside lane, where he struck a construction horse barrier, police said.

SUNDAY, JUNE 26

Stun Gun Fun

Alaeddin J. Hamida, 19, of the 13900 block of Trails End Drive in Homer Glen, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and speeding. Police said they stopped Hamida in the 12600 block of Harlem Avenue around 4 p.m. for driving 57 in a 35 mph zone and found a stun gun in his car.

3 More Grams off the Streets

Christopher Haddad, 22, of the 11100 block of Fawn Creek in Orland Park, was charged with possession of cannabis and failure to wear a seatbelt. Police said they stopped Haddad in the 12800 block of Harlem Avenue around noon for driving without a seatbelt and found less than 3 grams of marijuana in his car.

FRIDAY, JUNE 24

The Wrong Way

Michael L. Greco, 59, of the 12400 block of Harold Avenue in Palos Heights, was charged with DUI and driving in the wrong lane. Police said they stopped Greco in the 12300 block of 73rd Court around 3 p.m. for driving on the wrong side of the road. 

TUESDAY, JUNE 21

Party Mix

Paul R. Keslin, 53, of the 200 block of Sacramento Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Police said Keslin left a grocery store in the 7100 block of 127th Street around 1 p.m. without paying for carrot juice, roast beef and two bottles each of vodka and tequila, totaling $215. He was arrested in the parking lot.

Incident Reports

  • Sometime between 10 p.m. June 22 and 7:30 a.m. June 23, a portable toilet in Crawford Park was destroyed by a large firework. The blast shot “many parts” of the portable bathroom throughout the park grounds, police said.
  • A man tried to obtain a controlled substance from two Palos area pharmacies—one in the 7300 block of College Drive in Palos Heights and another in the 11000 block of Southwest Highway in Palos Hills—with a fake prescription, according to a police report. Police did not provide a description of the suspect but said the man visited both pharmacies between June 21 and 23.
