A Palos Heights man was arrested in Tinley Park on Nov. 14 for drug possession.

A Palos Heights man was arrested on Nov. 14 in Tinley Park after police stopped a car he was riding in.

Matthew Navarro, 31, of the 13000 block of Briar Lane in Palos Heights, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A car Navarro was riding in was pulled over for a seatbelt violation at 1 p.m. Nov. 14 at 183rd Street and Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park, police said.

After noticing the smell of marijuana, police said the officer noticed Navarro, the passenger, trying to hide something in his lap with a Bible. The officer asked Navarro to get out of the car and found a pile of pot where he had been sitting, police said.

Navarro told the officer he pulled out a plastic bag containing the marijuana when the car was being pulled over, but the drugs spilled in the car, police said.
