Charges have been filed against a murder suspect who led police on a chase that shut down north Lake Shore Drive. Joseph Felton, 44, of University Park is charged with attempted murder, use of a deadly weapon and several crimes related to the chase.
He’s also suspected of killing his wife in Georgia, and authorities there are preparing to extradite him to face murder charges.
He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery/use of a deadly weapon and aggravated fleeing of police more than 21 mph over the speed limit.
Felton remains hospitalized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Since 2011, his wife Sheray Felton sought two orders of protection against her husband. She said he was "extremely jealous, was physically abusive and had threatened to kill her and her son if she tried to leave him," reports the Chicago Tribune from court records.
Police tracked him down to a house in Harvey, and then Felton led them on a chase into the city, which ended in a crash on Lake Shore Drive and a standoff that shut down the road for hours until Chicago Police disabled him with a flash grenade.
