Mr. Jaber’s Wild Lumber Yard Ride: Blotter

Homewood police reports, Dec. 27-28

MONDAY, DECEMBER 28

Nicole Laurent, of the 14700 block of Avalon in Dolton, was charged with retail theft for stealing $65 worth of cigarettes, cigars and beauty products from Kmart, according to police. Reports say Laurent, a Kmart employee, tried passing the stolen along with several other items that she did pay for.

Road Rage

Police issued a man a citation for disorderly conduct after he honked his horn, spun his tires and accelerated out of frustration after waiting for two pedestrians to cross the street in front of him around 9:30 a.m.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 27

Lumber Yard Wild Ride

Police charged 53-year-old Fahed Jaber of the 7900 block of Tameling Ct. in Palos Hills with felony theft for allegedly stealing over $700 worth of merchandise from Menards, according to reports. Police say Jaber gathered the merchandise in a cart around 11:40 a.m. and left it unattended while he moved his truck into the lumber yard. Once inside the lumber yard, Jaber began to transfer the items to his truck, reports say. When Menards employees tried to stop him, he backed away and began “driving recklessly around the lumber yard.” Police say someone observed Jaber throw a rotary hammer out the window of his truck while performing evasive maneuvering, reports say. Employees finally stopped Jaber’s wild ride and turned him and a video of the theft over to the police.

Stolen Spool of Copper

Police are looking for a six foot fair-skinned man with freckles thought responsible for the theft of over $80 worth of copper from Menards just before 2:30 p.m. Reports say Menards security observed the man steal the wire and tried to stop him, but the man escaped. He was last seen fleeing Westbound towards 175th Street.

Police report information is provided by the Homewood Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.

Since Halsted goes North and South, fleeing west was really evasive.

Pssst, Halsted runs north and south.... Dunno how the freckled copper thief was seen running westbound.

$80 worth of copper? That's a couple feet of wire, or a handful of elbows nowadays!
Ryan Fitzpatrick January 08, 2013 at 01:59 PM
Thanks for pointing out the confusing description. The man fled west towards 175th Street.

It's sad that stealing $80 of copper is worth it to him.
