Midlo Man Keeps Headlights Dark, Hit with DUI: Blotter

Matthew J. Kaval, 25, is accused of drunken driving, according to Palos Heights police.

A Midlothian driver accused of driving with his headlights off will appear in court in August on a drunken driving charge.

Matthew J. Kaval, 25, of the 14500 block of Lamon Avenue, was charged with driving under the influence, failing to use headlights when required and improper lane use, according to a Palos Heights report.

Police stopped Kavel at about 11:10 p.m. on June 22 in the 12200 block of South Harlem Avenue for headlight and lane violations, the report states. An officer who spoke with Kavel could smell a strong odor of alcohol.

Kavel was arrested after performing field sobriety tests, according to the report.

Bail was set at $3,000. Kavel is due in Bridgeview court on Aug. 6.
