Metal Thief Thwarted in Broad Daylight: Police

John P. Doyle, 46, of Homer Glen, was charged with felony theft.

An alert Palos Park business owner caught a man stealing part of his steel and wrought-iron fence and alerted police.

John P. Doyle, 46, of Homer Glen, was charged on Monday felony theft by the Cook County State's Attorney's office, according to police.

Doyle donned worker-type clothing and tried to remove the fence during the day, police said. He was driving an older model green pickup truck.

Palos Park police said the high cost of scrap metal in recent years has drawn more thieves to target fences and other sources of metal.
