Man Mistaken for KGB Agent Stabbed in Palos Hills

A 22-year-old Palos Hills man is accused of unlawfully using a weapon after he allegedly sliced another man who he believed worked for a Cold War-era Soviet agency.

A Palos Hills man is accused of stabbing someone he believed to be an agent of the KGB over the weekend.

Yuself M. Salhieh, 22, was charged with unlawfully using a weapon on Aug. 24, Palos Hills police said. Salhieh saw a person's initials tattooed on the victim and mistakenly thought they stood for the Soviet Union security agency, police said.

The man was stabbed in the side at about 12:30 pm. in the 10200 block of South 84th Avenue, police said. Witnesses told police the victim and Salhieh argued outside a nearby apartment complex. Salhieh accused him of working for the KGB.

Officers said the victim was sliced with a small knife before the assailant ran away. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening wounds and was released later that day.

Salhieh was arrested in his home about 20 minutes after the alleged attack, police said.

In a bit of an odd twist, the victim has yet to follow-up with police. He reportedly told cops that he was going camping and would speak with detectives at the Palos Hills Police Department after he returned.

Police were unable to say whether alcohol or illness were a factor in the incident.

Salhieh is due on Oct. 16 in Bridgeview court.
