Hurt Palos Hills Cop Doing Well: Deputy Chief
A Palos Hills deputy chief says the officer who was hurt while attempting to apprehend an escaped bank robbery last week is off duty while he recovers.
A Palos Hills police officer hurt after confronting a prison escapee Friday night is doing off duty recovering from a torn hamstring.
"He sounded good," said Palos Hills Deputy Chef James Boie. "He’s just happy that it all got resolved and this guy wasn’t still out there, running around.”
Kenneth Conley, 38, was arrested Friday afternoon. Conley and a second man, both convicted bank robbers, broke out of a Chicago correctional center in December, launching in a manhunt in the south suburbs.

A tip led authorities to investigate a Palos Hills apartment complex. Conley reportedly was found wearing a disguise and walking with a cane. When stopped, he allegedly punched a Palos Hills officer and tried to break into an apartment before being apprehended.

The officer hurt his leg and back, police said Friday. Boie told Palos Patch on Monday that he was diagnosed with a torn hamstring.
“He’s out now," Boie said. "As far as how long, I don’t know how long.”
Palos Hills police charged Conley with battery and resisting arrest. He was taken into FBI custody Friday and appeared in court over the weekend.
