Good Neighbor Pushed to the Ground as He Tries to Stop Car 'Thief'

The man stepped in front of the car, trying to stop another man from driving away.

A Naperville man was charged with battery after he shoved another trying to stop him from driving off in an elderly neighbor's car, police said.

Raymond Hilger, 49, was spotted attempting to drive away with the car at a home on Juniper Court. A neighbor called police, before stepping in to intervene. The man believed Hilger was trying to steal the neighbor's car. He attempted to block Hilger from driving off, when Hilger stepped out of the car, cursing and then shoving him to the ground, according to reports.

Police were able to confirm that Hilger knew the owner of the car, and was not trying to steal it. Hilger was charged with battery and issued a March 11 court date at the Bridgeview courthouse, room 105.

Police report information is provided by Palos Hills police. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
