Aviation Fuel Leak Closes Cal Sag Road

'Major repairs' are underway on a line that burst early Monday morning in Palos Park.

Update 11:30 a.m.: Palos Park Police Chief Joe Miller said an aviation fuel line along Cal Sag Road shut down automatically when it started to leak early Monday morning.

Crews were working to repair the leak Monday. About three miles of Cal Sag Road (Route 83), from Southwest Highway to Route 45, could be closed until Wednesday morning, Miller said. Fumes from the fuel have dissipated and remediation workers are cleaning up the leaked fuel.

"The remediation people will have to go through all that to see what has been impacted," Miller said.

Sensors along the pipeline were alerted to the problem and automatically shut down the line, he said.

Update 9:45 a.m.: Route 83 in Palos Park will be closed until Wednesday as "major repairs" are made to a gas line, Chief Joe Miller said Monday.
