Former Palos Park Police Pastor to Officiate Betty Ford Memorial Service

Friends and family of the late First Lady Betty Ford will gather in Palm
Desert Tuesday afternoon for celebration of life service.

Former Palos Park Police Pastor Lane Hensley is now a Rector of St.
Margaret's Episcopal Church and School Palm Desert, Calif. Lane will be officiating the service assisted by the Rev. Deacon Cherry Remboldt.

Lane left the Palos Park Police Department in June 2010 for his assignment at St Margaret's in Palm Desert, Calif.

The following are minutes from the Village Board meeting where Hensley was honored before his move to California.

RECOGNITION OF PASTOR LANE HENSLEY: Mayor Mahoney presented Pastor Lane Hensley with a Certificate of Recognition for his service and contributions to the community. Pastor Hensley has been with Church of the Transfiguration for many years and most recently partnered with the Palos Park Police Department by establishing the Police Chaplaincy Program and just a few months ago helped establish the Palos Park Police Foundation.

The Police Chaplain brings experience, training and skills to tragedies encountered in law enforcement. The Chaplain and police officers work as a team making a difference in the lives of persons touched by tragedy. The mission of the Police Foundation is to prevent crime, save lives, and make our community a better and safer place to live and work by assisting the Palos Park Police Department with resources not available from the Village.

Monies raised are used for equipment and training. On behalf of the Palos Park Police Officers, Detective Barry Churnin, recognized Pastor Hensley for all his hard work with the Chaplaincy Program and Police Foundation by presenting him with a plaque that reads "The men and women of the Palos Park Police Department thank Lane Hensley for his dedication to the Police Department and the community and his efforts in creating the Palos Park Police Foundation".

Officer John Winter also thanked Pastor Hensley for his support. As Commissioner of Public Safety, Dan Polk, extended his deepest appreciation and thank you to Lane Hensley as he departs for his new parish in Palm Desert, CA. Commissioner Polk wished him the best of luck and great success. Pastor Hensley thanked everyone and was truly overwhelmed by the support of the police officers.
