Family Escapes Apartment Fire in Palos Hills

A father and four children were treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center following the fire early Tuesday morning.

A fire inside a Palos Hills apartment sent five family members to the hospital, and displaced other building residents.

The North Palos Fire Protection District was called about a fire on the first floor of an apartment building in the 11100 block of Moraine Drive around 12:05 a.m., according to North Palos Fire Battalion Chief Chris Perry.

“The fire was quickly extinguished after that,” Perry said.

A father and his four children were home at the time when the fire started in the apartment living room, but they escaped before fire crews arrived. All five had to be transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment, Perry said.

“There is substantial damage to that unit,” Perry said.

The rest of the building had to be evacuated, per orders from Palos Hills Building Commissioner.
