Elderly Woman Targeted in Palos Heights Ruse Burglary

Two men targeted a Palos Heights woman and took valuable jewelry from her home.

An elderly woman was the victim of a ruse burglary in Palos Heights over the weekend.

On Oct. 15 around 3 p.m. an 82-year-old woman answered the door of her townhome on the 6300 block of Orchard to find a man who claimed he was working for the homeowner's association.

The man said he needed to check her water heater and began making conversation while he ran the water in her kitchen, police said. The woman then noticed a second man had entered the home.

She immediately asked the men to leave and found that a bedroom had been ransacked, police said. Three diamond rings, costume jewelry and checkbooks were taken from the home, police said.

The first man is described as having olive skin, about 35 years of age and of average build. The second man has olive skin, is about 55 to 60 years old and heavyset, police said. A gray, four-door Toyota was seen parked in the driveway.
