Drop Off Expired or Unused Medicine at Palos Park Police Department April 26

As part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, the Palos Park Police Department and other area departments will be destinations April 26 for those who want to safely dispose of medicine they no longer use or need. Find out the details.

Those outdated medications sitting in your bathroom cabinet aren't just cluttering the shelves. They also could be a potential safety hazard if you have small children in the house.

Eliminate that risk by disposing of those expired pharmaceuticals April 26 at the Palos Park Police Department, 8999 W. 123rd St. 

The village, along with other communities across the country, is participating in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 26, an event that allows people to safely get rid of their unused or expired medicine.

Drive-up and drop-off service will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Removing or obscuring any personal information on the drug labels isn't required, but it is recommended.

Here are a few more things you should know about the drop-off before you go:

  • All solid dose and liquid pharmaceuticals in consumer containers will be accepted.
  • Cough syrups and other liquid medications should be in the original container with the caps tightly sealed.
  • Needles; used, intravenous solutions; injectables; and syringes will not be accepted.
  • Law enforcement personnel at the drop-off will not handle medications at any time, and individuals dropping off their drugs should hang on to them at all times during the process.
