Charges Filed in Crash That Left 1 Dead, 3 Hospitalized Near Palos Hills

A Justice man was charged with eight counts of felony DUI after a crash left one man dead and multiple people hospitalized.

Charges have been filed in a car crash that left one person dead and injured several others.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. at the intersection of LaGrange Road and 95th Street in a forest preserve area near Palos Hills, police said.

Sam Cafi, 28, of the 8300 block of South 79th Street in Justice, was charged with eight counts of felony driving under the influence, including DUI resulting in a death, according to a Cook County Sheriff's Office news release.

Ryan Osowski, 28, of the 7500 block of Farmingdale Drive in Darien, was killed in the crash, according to reports

In the early morning hours of March 10 Cafi was speeding down 95th Street when he crashed into a vehicle that was traveling southbound on LaGrange Road, police said.

The vehicle Cafi hit then rolled over several times and landed in the westbound lanes on 95th Street, according to the release. 

That car's driver was the only occupant and was taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn in critical condition, the release reads. 

Cafi was driving three other passengers. Osowski, who was in the passenger seat was ejected through the windshield. 

The other two passengers were also transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition and remain hospitalized, according to the release. 

The Sheriff's Office reports that witnesses at the scene said that Cafi had been drinking at a bar with the other occupants of the vehicle.

A breath test and field sobriety tests both showed Cafi was drunk at the time of the crash, police said.   

His next court date is set for April 2.
