Cell Phone Store Standoff Ends in Arrests

Two juvenile males are in Midlothian police custody after a burglary and five-hour standoff at ABC Wireless, 3328 W. 147th Street. Charges against the two are still pending as police investigate.

Two Robbins teens will be charged with burglary Wednesday, after they attempted to rob a Midlothian cell phone store Tuesday night, according to reports.

The two were taken into custody after a five-hour wait for them to surrender. Both were seen inside the ABC Wireless store at 3328 W. 147th St. Officers saw two suspects inside the store—one of whom appeared to be holding a weapon, according to a press release from Midlothian police.

Officers called in the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, who surrounded the store around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers tried to contact the two suspects in the store, but failed. After five hours, police entered the store around 2:30 a.m. and took the two boys into custody without incident. A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to the release.

An investigation is ongoing.

Police Blotter information is provided by the Midlothian Police Department. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. A lot of people tend to knock the police for being heavy handed, but here we have a situation where they could have used "deadly force" and they didn't. Good job. Too bad there's a few cops out there that give the good ones a bad rep.
