Buckle Up! Click It or Ticket Campaign Begins Today

Local police departments are taking part in a campaign that is intended to enforce seatbelt laws across Illinois

Area police departments are coordinating their efforts as part of a campaign to enforce seat belt laws in Illinois. 

The program, dubbed "Click It or Ticket," begins Friday, May 11 and lasts through Memorial Day weekend. 

During Memorial Day weekend of 2011, 13 fatalities and more than 700 injuries were reported on state roadways, police said. Six of those fatalaties were related to alcohol use.

It is estimated that in 2012, safety bealts saved 12,546 lives on U.S. roads, according to a news release.

Both the and police departments have announced their participation in the program.
