Accused of Killing His Parents, John Granat To Be Arraigned Next Month

John Granat, 17, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The high school senior accused of killing both of his parents in their Palos Township home appeared briefly in court Tuesday morning.

John Granat, 17, a student at Stagg High School, is charged with the murders of his parents John, 44, and Maria Granat, 42. During a brief appearance in court it was announced that Granat will be arraigned on Oct. 11 at the Bridgeview courthouse.

At that time he will enter a plea of guilty or not guilty.

Prosecutors will present additional evidence to a grand jury on Oct. 7, it was announced in court.

Prosecutors say that on the morning of Sept. 11 to report that his parents were dead in their bedroom, victims of a supposed home invasion.

The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled the cause of death as multiple blunt force trauma.

Prosecutors say the younger Granat , none of which checked out.

Patch reported on Sept. 17, t from the pond next to the Granat home on the 12700 block of 81st Court. The suspected weapon is an axe that includes a hammer-like end, the source said.

During Tuesday's appearance, Granat's attorney, Rick Beuke, asked Judge Peter Felice to allow Granat's family to provide him with plastic glasses after his wire framed pair was confiscated.

Granat is being held at the Cook County Jail.

"His family continues to be supportive," Beuke said.
