Palos 118 kicks off holiday season with annual senior breakfast

Palos School District 118 launched the yuletide season by hosting a festive holiday breakfast for over 100 local senior citizens Thursday, November 21. The second annual Palos 118 Senior Holiday Breakfast was held at Palos South Middle School, complete with entertainment and a mini school tour provided by students.

Welcoming remarks were given by Student Council President Faris Ziyad, with entertainment provided by Palos South’s Performance Ensemble, and the Cardinal Red Jazz Band.  Staff and administrators served guests a buffet-style breakfast, while students from the “Pacesetters” service club escorted seniors to and from the cafeteria, cleared tables, and conducted tours.

Palos South Principal Dr. Ron Cozza said, “Our students took great pride in showing off their school and talents.  I was touched by the genuine conversations that occurred between the Pacesetters and seniors.  We want our students to appreciate the seniors because they are such an important part of the Palos community.”

Details made the event special.  At each place setting were letters of welcome from Palos South students, and remarks were made by Superintendent Joseph Dubec and School Board President Sheila Pacholski before the entertainment began.

“The students are great kids who are very fortunate to be educated in District 118,” said Marie Arrigoni of the Palos Park Seniors Club. “There is quite an age gap between us, but it was fun to all be in the same room enjoying ourselves.”
