Palos 118 First Graders Hatch Chicks in Classrooms

First graders at Palos East and West schools were excited to finally hold the newly-hatched chicks that had been incubating in their classrooms the past several weeks as part of their science unit.

First graders at  and  schools were excited to finally hold the newly-hatched chicks that had been incubating in their classrooms the past several weeks as part of their science unit.

The hatching project provides students with an interactive experience to learn the parts of an egg, what is needed for successful incubation, the stages of development, and how to care for newly hatched chicks.

Students in Ms. Karla Kueber's class at Palos West applied their knowledge by working with partners and using classroom iPads to film short informational videos about their chicks.  As a keepsake, Ms. Kueber will burn the videos to a cd for her students.
