$80 million of taxpayer money wasted each year: Sheriff Candidate Ted Palka supports real justice reform

A recent report published by the Chicago Suntimes explained that jail and court delays under the current sheriff of Cook County have cost us $80 million a year.

That's $80 million a year of our hard-earned taxpayer dollars, money that could have been used across Cook County to fund more sheriff's patrols, job creation, crime reduction, community development, education programs, or health services to truly help improve all citizens' lives.

The story added that it costs Cook County $300 million a year to operate the jail, which is in need of serious reform, but there is no accountability and cooperation for improvement due to politics as usual.

Cook County Sheriff Candidate Ted Palka believes in a much more efficient criminal justice system. Under Palka's plan, all County agencies would work together to coordinate their law enforcement efforts, cooperate in their legal casework, and collaborate to achieve desired results.

Today's system and current administration keeps overcrowding the jail, flooding the courts, and wasting millions of dollars every year. It's time to get away from the bureaucracy and time to get serious about reform. In 2014, let's hope that there's a new sheriff in town, Ted Palka.
