Services Held for Leon Seibutis, 89, Doctor and Retired Army Major

Memorial services for the Palos Heights doctor were scheduled over the weekend.

Services were held over the weekend for a Palos Heights doctor who passed away on New Year's Day.

Leonas “Leon” Seibutis, a retired urologist born in Lithuania, died of heart failure, according to his obituary.

He was 89.

Memorial services were held Saturday at the Petkus Lemont Funeral Home.

Leon studied medicine in Luthuania and Germany. He completed his residency at the University of Chicago. During his practice of more than 40 years, he saw patients at his Marquette Park office while having privileges at several hospitals, including Palos Community Hospital.

Leon served honorably in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1958 as a Major, and also received the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas from the President of Lithuania for the pro bono surgeries he performed.

He is survived by his wife Brigitte, nee Vogel, of 63 years; his daughters, Regina (Robert) Battles, Laima (Mike) Szymanski, Katherine (John) O’Sullivan, and Barbara Seibutis; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one nephew in Lithuania.
