Palos Priest, 'Man of the Year' Dies

Rev. Msgr. John A. Kuzinskas most recently served as chaplain of Holy Family Villa in Palos Park.

Palos Park resident Rev. Msgr. John A. Kuzinskas died at the age of 87 on July 4 while in recovery following open heart surgery, reports the Sun-Times Media

"He was an exceptional man and an exemplary priest whose life was defined by hard work, abiding faith and devotion to God, love for family and friends, and deep concern for those to whom he ministered," reads his obituary. "His infectious smile, caring heart, and generous nature endeared him not only to his family but to countless others and he will be missed dearly."

Kuzinskas was ordained on May 1, 1952. He retired from the priesthood in 1997 and since then he has served as chaplain at Holy Family Villa in Palos Park.

In 2005, Francis Cardinal George awarded Msgr. Kuzinskas with the Cure d' Ars—a recognition given to priests who mirror the attributes of St. John Vianney, patron saint of priests. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI bestowed the title monsignor upon him. Kuzinskas was also once named "Man of the Year" by the Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his fondness for golf and gardening, Msgr. Kuzinskas was a White Sox fan.

Visitation will take place July 11 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Holy Family Villa Chapel, 12220 S. Will-Cook Rd., Palos Park and on Friday, July 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. at Nativity BVM Church, 6812 S. Washtenaw, Chicago. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Nativity BVM with interment later that afternoon at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd., Libertyville.
