In their last Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference game of the regular season, the Cyclones solidified their status as co-conference champs Feb. 16 with a 57-43 win over Oakton Community College.
shares the top spot with Waubonsee Community College, with both teams sporting a 12-2 record. Their most recent win wasn’t a nail biter as the Cyclones were up most of the game. Thornridge product Mike Jackson led the charge with 15 points, including eight free throws and a rebound. Modestas Masiulionis (Lemont) scored 12, going 5-for-8 from the floor and scoring two 3-pointers while grabbing one rebound and earning an assist. St. Laurence grad Mike Schick had eight points for the night, including four free throws, one assist, one rebound, and one steal.
Although the Cyclones have to share the championship, they are seeded first in the NJCAA Region IV playoffs because they defeated Waubonsee in both meetings this year.
“So far the season has been a learning process. We have grown as a team and as a family. We continue to get better each game, but we have yet to play our best basketball. We've won 11 in a row, but we can play better which is a good spot for us to be in,” said head coach Dedrick Shannon. “I'm very excited about the playoffs because I think we can make a run at the Region IV championship this year.”
The Cyclones will begin their playoff run on Thursday, March 1, at home against Oakton Community College.
