Marist is ready to start off 2013 the right way!

Marist is ready to start off 2013 the right way!

-The first week of second semester was a success. Students and teachers are back at work, teams are competing, and clubs are up and running.

Second semester offers a new opportunity to achieve academic success and to get involved. Students can join clubs and can work hard to achieve the grades they want. Always remember that resources are available, including tutoring in the ARC and help with finding extracurriculars through the student activities or campus ministry offices. The guidance department can also offer support to students in either of these areas. So, make sure to encourage your child to ask for help if needed.

RedHawk Sports Round-up

  • Boys basketball picked up a big win over St. Patrick on Friday night, 73-61. During the game, senior LJ McIntosh scored his way to Marist history. With 1,501 points total to make him the school's all-time individual score leader.
  • Girls basketball faced some tough competition against top rated Marian Catholic Saturday, but looks to rebound Wednesday night as they travel to Joliet Catholic and then head into tournament play this weekend.
  • Wrestling has been a roll, winning the Illini Classic at Lincoln-Way East for the second straight year. The team had four first place finshers, three in second, three in third and and one fouth place. They host their last regular season home meet this Thursday against Providence Catholic at 5:30pm.
  • Hockey advanced to the quarterfinals of the competitive Blackhawk Holiday Tournament and then picked up a solid win against the Crusaders last week. The team heads to Culver Academy in Indiana this weekend for games Friday and Saturday. They return home to play St. Ignatius on Sunday at 3:30 at Johnny's West.
  •  Poms finished third at Eisenhower and are looking forward to this Saturday's sectional competition at Andrew HS. They need some rowdies in the stands to cheer them on, so come out at 11:30am to show your support!
  • Cheerleading took first place on Sunday at Naperville North, being named Grand Champions as well! They took second the week before at Oak Forest, missing first by just a few points. They're practicing now in preparation for sectionals at Riverside Brookfield on January 26.
  • Congratulations to boys bowling on winning the Catholic League South division title! Although they fell short on repeating as overall Catholic League (CCL) champs, they've had a great season. Individually, Pete Switalski received the Lawless Athlete of the Year Award which is given to the senior who is recognized as the top bowler in the CCL. Pete achieved this award by averaging 215 during the regular season and averaging 226 during the five games bowled during the Conference Championship. The boys head to sectionals this Saturday at Palos Bowl.
  • Girls bowling has been rolling along, too. They've had some great conference wins and are looking forward to Saturday's match up against Mother McAuley at Bleekers at 10am.

Come out to a winter game or meet. Check out the schedule here.
