Palos Heights and Palos Park both held holiday celebrations on Friday night signaling the official start of the Christmas season. 

Heights' event was a tree lighting ceremony at the . The event featured Santa Claus who made his grand enterence on a fire truck.

A hayride took families past the Art Garden where almost two dozen Christmas trees were decorated by area schools and organizations. Mayor Bob Straz flipped the switch and lit the firehouse's tree.

In Palos Park a holiday Bazaar was held at the . Local businesses set up booths while school groups entertained the crowd.
