Benefit for Cook County Sheriff's Sergeant Battling Cancer

A benefit is being held Sunday for Jill Sitasz-Wermes, a Sergeant in the Cook County Sheriff's Department, who is battling Breast Cancer.

The "Jill's Fight Like a Girl Benefit" is scheduled from 2pm to 7pm, Sunday, August 29th at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th Street in Merrionette Park.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door and include a dinner buffet, beer, wine,non-alcoholic beverages, entertainment and valet parking. There will also be rafflesand a silent auction. The event is for adults only and all proceeds will go to current and ongoing medical costs.

Jill's battle began last year when biopsies on both her breasts revealed that she had the beginning stages of breast cancer. Jill discussed her treatment options with her oncologists and eventually opted for a bilateral Mastectomy. Since June of 2009, Jill has had five operations and countless other tests. Her family and friends are hosting the benefit to help with her ongoing medical costs.

Jill is a Sergeant at the Criminal Courts Building and has been with the Cook County Sheriff's office for six years. She is also a single mother to a 13 year old daughter.
