Palos Heights Farmers Market

Dr. Mary Peterson of Great Lakes Health and Wellness Chiropractic will be the guest of the Palos Heights Farmers Market on Wednesday September 18th. Illinois Senior Farmers Market Checks, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services to low income seniors, are accepted at the Zeldenrust Farm stand. They work as cash, and are good for all fruits and vegetables. Stop by to utilize them.

Applications are being taken for the 2014 CSA offered by the Richert-Phillips Farms. A discounted price will be offered to those participants who sign up in 2013. CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture, is a way to "buy into" the farm. a guaranteed box of diverse, in-season, fresh produce is ready for pick up every week starting in June through October. It is also a perfect way to support local farmers. Stop by the tent for more information, or call 574-274-6019.

A wide variety of apples are in the market, along with cider, pears, plums, grapes, fall squashes, potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, summer squashes, corn, melons, beans, tomatoes, peppers of all colors, spinach, and more! Additional food products include breads and bakery, eggs, cheeses, and butter, olive oils and vinegars, beef and pork products, pizza and pesto, tamales and salsas. Pick up a fall  mum and other perennial plants, ornamental corn, have your knives sharpened, pick up your Pampered Chef products, and Shaklee products to keep you healthy.

Stop by the City Tent to pick up this week's recipe courtesy of Dr. John Principe MD of WellbeingMD Center for Life, " Eggplant Caprese with Tomato and Basil". This and additional recipes will be available. Also at the City Tent, pick up Ball canning booklets and coupons while supplies last. In addition, make sure to have your Frequent Shopper Card endorsed. All completed cards must be returned by October 9th to be eligible for the year end market raffle. Also, beautiful photo note cards featuring farmers market and Palos scenes are available while supplies last. Proceeds of the sales benefit the market.
