The Week That Was: Lawsuits, School Plans and Basketball

A look back at last week's Palos news.

As the weather fluctuates daily between winter and spring, it is clear that a new season will soon be upon us. On the local news front, that new season brings with it municipal elections and a new state legislature that is faced with some big problems. As always Palos Patch was on the forefront of neighborhood news and brought you a wide variety of stories and features. So sit back on this sunny Sunday and review the week that was. 

The Big News
  • A lawsuit file by homeowners associations of the Westgate Valley subdivision has been heating up as residents are demanding city services from Palos Heights. We brought you an at the lawsuit's history and origins. A inched the issue closer to trial. This is sure to be a major issue this election season, so every resident of Palos Heights should know the background.
  • The Illinois legislature is that would allow certain business owners to apply for a smoking license that would give approval for patrons to smoke indoors.
  • A bill that would have consolidated the state's school districts was and ultimately withdrawn, by a state legislator in Springfield. As Illinois faces major budget concerns, school financing will continue to be a focus of elected officials.
  • Palos Heights budget and Palos Hills business license to a new proposed daycare center. 
The Regulars Sports
  • Shepard's boys basketball team won and then lost in regional play, finishing the season with a 13-15 record. 
  • In front of a packed house, Stagg boys basketball fell to district rival Andrew ending the Chargers season and leaving them with a still stellar 21-6 record. 
  • Marist also fell in regional play with a loss to Hindsdale South.
