The Week that Was: 8/30-9/05

A look back at the stories that Palos Patch tackled this week.

This week's temperatures marked a definite transition from summer to fall. Many of the stories Palos Patch brought you this week echo that transition. As students went back to school and high school football season kicked into high gear, Palos Patch covered the stories that mattered most. Here is a look back at the week that was:

  • We started off the week with a two-part series on the housing market in Palos Heights. While not immune to national trends, it appears that Palos Heights is fairing better than most. To read the series click here and here.
  • Our look at the Palos Heights police blotter gave you insights into the crimes that were committed this week.
  • District 128 became only the second school district in the state to implement a new tracking system for students who ride the bus. The ZPass technology allows school officials to monitor when students get on and off the bus.
  • The Palos Hills police blotter featured the theft of a boat from a resident's backyard.
  • Our Sox Savvy column continued to follow the White Sox and their efforts to squeeze into the playoffs.
  • As always, we gave you the blow by blow of what happened at the recent Palos Hills City Council meeting.
  • We detailed Palos Hills' plans to install a new roof on the police station.
  • Finally, our sports reporters covered three big games this week: Sandburg's defeat of Stagg in football, the Chicago Christian football home opener and a tough loss for Stagg's girls volleyball team.
  • In addition to our news coverage, I also let you know how you can use Patch to find and post volunteer opportunities in your community.

Be sure to stop be throughout the coming week as we have a number of great stories in the works.
