Community Corner

The Week that Was: 8/23-8/29

A recap of the stories Palos Patch covered this week.

In our first full week of reporting, Palos Patch covered stories that are as varied as the community itself. From highlighting community heroes, to covering the start of high school football season we had it covered.

  • The week kicked off with a story on the Palos-area's many farmers markets. With Palos Hills, Palos Heights and Palos Park all offering a weekly market many community members not only pick up fresh vegetables, they connect with their neighbors as well.
  • Our preview of the high school football season was completed with a look at Stagg's prospects. You should also check out our previews of Shepard and Chicago Christian's football season.
  • Read through our Sox Savvy columns.
  • The Palos Heights police blotter kept you informed about the crimes that occurred in your neighborhood .
  • Our coverage of the Palos Park village council meeting gave you a rundown of what happened, and officials' reaction to the closure of Palos Bank and Trust.
  • School District 128 made the back to school process a little easier on parents.
  • We profiled two extraordinary area figures. A Shepard dean who works to fight cancer, and a Palos Hills World War II veteran who was recently honored.
  • Shepard High School was also in the news. The Astros won the first game of the season, and ROTC members volunteered for Honor Flight Chicago.
  • The week was also marked by students headed back to school. District 118 kicked things off with a family picnic, and an image from that event was our picture of the week.
