Nun-Mask Robbery Marks Fifth Hold Up In 5 Years for TCF Bank

On Sunday, TCF Bank in Palos Heights was robbed for the fifth time in five years, according to police.

Dressed as nuns, two at-large robbers help up TCF Bank in Palos Heights just before closing Sunday afternoon, marking the fifth time in five years the bank has been held up.

Palos Heights police say TCF Bank, 6410 West 127th St., is no stranger to robberies. The branch has been hit five times since 2007, police said.

The four previous incidents have all been solved; however the masked robbers from Sunday's incident have yet to be apprehended.

Two bank employees, but no security guards, were present during Sunday’s brazen Hollywood-like robbery. The number of employees on duty depends on the foot traffic of that particular location, and the company hires guards based on “the best information that we have” about the possibility of a robbery, said Jason Korstange, the bank's director of communications.

The bank does not currently employ guards, but Korstange said the Chicago office would likely review the possibility of employing one from now on.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they did,” he noted from his office in Minnesota by phone.

Korstange wouldn’t say how much money was stolen but promised it was insured.

“We are pleased that no one was hurt,” he said. “(Robbers) barely get much money in these things, and we're much more concerned about the health and welfare of our employees and customers. ... We just hope that they get caught.”

Palos Heights police say that to their knowledge, there have been no other recent bank robberies in which disguises similar to those used in the Ben Affleck film The Town have been employed.

Surveillance cameras captured an image of the getaway car, however no arrests have been made and no new leads have been found, police said.
