Grab & Go Kids Planner: Green Waterfall, Madagascar and Little Red Schoolhouse

A look at family friendly events in the coming week.

Where/When: Thursday, March 17 at noon and 4 p.m. atin Palos Heights.

Why Go: The waterfall will be dyed green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Green River soda will also be served in celebration of all things Irish. Make sure you get there on time, as the color only lasts for 15 minutes.

MADIGASCAR LIVE

Where/When: March 16-20 at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont. Show times are 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday.

Why Go: You’ve got to move it, move it while watching this musical based on the DreamWorks film. Join Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria as they get caught up in an escape from the zoo by homesick penguins and wind up in the madcap world of King Julien.

Pricing: Tickets range from $16 to $54.

MOUSE COOKIE PARTY

Where/When: Party kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at Governors State University Performing Arts Center ahead of the 3 p.m. performance of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Other Story Books.

Why Go: Young ones can learn a lot about cause and effect from this humorous adaptation by Jeremy Desmon and Patrick Dwyer of the children’s book by Laura Joffe Numeroff. Variety called it “Sixty minutes of theatrical enchantment.”

Pricing: Cookie party tickets are $7, performance tickets range from $10.50 to $15.50.

SPRING EQUINOX FROG WALK

Where/When: Sunday, March 20, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center, 9800 Willow Springs Road, Willow Springs.

Why Go: Longer days awaken some species of frogs. Naturalists will be checking the trails for the sounds of frogs coming out of hibernation. What kid can resist chasing frogs?

Pricing: Can’t beat free.
