Stagg Students Place 3rd in MVCC Regional Culinary Competition

Stagg High School students Amanda Bell, Breanna Swick, and Bekka Christianson placed third in the 2nd annual Regional Culinary Competition at Moraine Valley Community College on Tuesday.

Student teams from Argo, Reavis, Sandburg, Richards, Eisenhower, and Shepard also participated in the competition.

Students were given full use of the MVCC culinary facilities and were provided a set list of ingredients in advance, which they were to utilize in their own salad, main dish, vegetable, potato, and dessert recipes.

The Stagg team chose to prepare a baby spinach, arugula, strawberry, walnut, and goat cheese salad, with a poppy seed vinaigrette; panko, parmesan and parsley crusted chicken, with fingerling potato gnocchi, mushroom cream sauce, and green beans with sundried tomatoes and sliced almonds; and chocolate and white chocolate bowls with raspberry sorbet.

Their efforts earned them a 3rd place overall in a very close competition, coming in right behind Shepard (2nd) and Argo (1st).  The judges made special mention of the girls’ organization and positive teamwork during food preparation.
