D230 All-Youth Relay for Life builds on $3.35 million raised by students over 17 years

Building on the $3.35 million raised over the past 17 years, the District 230 All-Youth Relay for Life is this weekend at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park. Students from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools plan the entire event, which is the second largest all-youth event in the country behind Virginia Tech University.

With 225 teams and 2,163 participants this year, District 230 Relay organizers hope to top the $350,000 raised last year for the American Cancer Society.

The 2013 District 230 Relay For Life was recognized for being the most successful and largest high school Relay in the nation.

The Opening Ceremony will be held around 9 p.m. on the Sandburg High School stadium field and will be followed by a Survivors Lap and Celebration, Caregivers Lap, Luminaria Ceremony and Fight Back Ceremony. Students will then walk the track throughout the night representing that the fight against cancer never sleeps.

American Cancer Society Relay For Life offers an inspiring opportunity to honor cancer survivors, promote how individuals can reduce their cancer risk, and raise money to help end cancer. Today, with the support of thousands of volunteers, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day.
