Feeling 'Funkie'? Local Woman Opens Boutique in Palos Park

A Mt. Greenwood woman has opened a Funkie Fashion women's boutique in Palos Park.

A Mt. Greenwood woman with a passion for fashion, shopping and traveling is seeing her dream come to fruition in the south suburbs.

Caley Funk's boutique "Funkie Fashions," at 9656 W. 131st. St. in Palos Park might sound familiar—a reincarnation of its previous location at 3522 W. 111th St. in Beverly. The shop aims to provide women of all ages and sizes with fashionable clothing and accessories at an affordable price.

The inventory changes often and Funk aims to offer customers a unique shopping experience that will keep them from having to travel elsewhere.

"We keep things fresh," Funk said. "So you don't see another version of you walking down the street everyday."

Funk orders brands such as Tru Blooms perfumes—scents inspired by flowers in Chicago gardens—and well-known purse brand Big Buddha. She likes to stick to Made in the USA products. The newest addition to her inventory will be purse brand "The Clutch," which can only be found in boutiques.

Funk says that the clothes are a mix of casual everyday wear and items that you might pick out for a special occasion. She sees her shop as a place where women can add special pieces to their wardrobe.

Funk lives in Mt. Greenwood with her children and husband John, who is a firefighter at the Mt. Greenwood firehouse.

Though her business is local, her travels across the country with husband John and their four sons sparked the idea. As a child, she would visit family in Arizona, stopping into boutiques in shopping destination Whiskey Row.

"I just knew, that's something I wanted to do," she said.

Prices at the boutique are based on Funk's idea of affordability. "Would I pay that much for a shirt?" she mused. Most items in the store currently are tagged at $100 or lower, excluding some of the larger Big Buddha bags, she said.

A grand opening celebration is set for Saturday March 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is located in the Mill Creek Plaza, just a walk away from Jewel, between UPS and Re/Max. Shoppers will receive a free gift with each purchase.

The store's hours are  Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
