Business Comings and Goings: Three New Pizzerias, New Owners for Bar and Grill

A look at what new business are setting up shop in town.

It appears Palos Heights is experiencing a bit of a pizza renaissance of late. Two new pizzerias will be opening their doors soon and will join an already expanded roster of local joints.

The City Council granted a liquor license to Mid Villa Pizza of Palos at Tuesday's meeting. The restaurant is set to open at 12226 S. Harlem Avenue. This will be the second location for the pizzeria which has operated on 147th Street in Midlothian for over 40 years.

The shop's owner, Michael Byrnes, says that the new restaurant will have five to six booths and several tables. In addition to pizza, pasta and sandwiches they will also serve beer and wine.

Also preparing to open its doors, albeit a bit sooner, is 2 Goombas. The restaurant will feature pizza and other Italian dishes. Located at 13440 S. Ridgeland Ave., they are setting up shop in the former space. The goombas are expected to open sometime in the next few weeks.

Papa John's Pizza is also up and running. The national chain set up shop in Palos Heights at 7154 W. 127th Street and officially opened its doors a few weeks ago.

Goodwill Coming to Town?

Goodwill Retail Services has petitioned Palos Heights for a change in zoning that will allow the charity retailer to open a location in the shopping center at 6541 W. 127th Street, which is the shopping center on Ridgeland Avenue.

Ald. Jack Clifford says that Goodwill plans to use the location as a storage facility only for the time being, with the possibility of opening a retail center in the future.

Game Back On

The former Grill has come under new ownership and will be open for business in the next month or two.

Located at 6405 W. 127th Street, the new owners have renamed the bar and restaurant X’s & O’s Sports Lounge.

Owner Vasili Eliadis says he is refurbishing the interior with new all new furniture and hopes to bring a more family vibe to the dining room. Lunch specials will be offered, and the menu will highlight steaks and sandwiches.

The owners already operate a location of the same name in Bridgeview.
